Question 1

How does the face shape detector work?

Accepted Answer

It finds 478 points on your face in the photo, compares the width of your forehead, cheekbones and jaw with the length of your face and how rounded your jaw is, then names the closest of seven shapes. All of it runs in your browser.

Question 2

Is my photo uploaded?

Accepted Answer

No. Your photo is read by code running in this browser tab. It isn’t uploaded or saved, and we only count which shape came up. The full MaxAura reading is different: it sends your photo to Google’s AI to read your colors, hair and frames, and asks you first.

Question 3

What are the seven face shapes?

Accepted Answer

Oval is a little longer than wide with a softly rounded jaw. Round is about as wide as long with soft curves. Square has forehead, cheekbones and jaw close in width and a defined jaw. Heart is widest at the forehead and cheekbones with a narrower chin. Oblong is noticeably longer than wide. Diamond is widest at the cheekbones. Triangle is widest at the jaw.

Question 4

Why does it say my face is close to another shape?

Accepted Answer

Many faces sit between two shapes, and the shapes themselves are a styling shorthand, not a measurement. When a second shape is nearly as close, we show both. The detector also can’t see a hairline hidden under hair, which can shift the result a little.

Question 5

What photo works best?

Accepted Answer

A straight-on selfie at arm’s length, in even light, with your hair pulled back from your face and your chin level. Skip glasses, filters and tilted angles.

Question 6

What is my face shape useful for?

Accepted Answer

Choosing haircuts, glasses frames and where to place volume or detail. It’s a starting point, not a rule: wear what you love.
